Eagle Rare Bourbon
As American as apple pie and John Wayne, Kentucky bourbon must be made from a minimum of 51% corn, aged in charred new-oak barrels, contain no caramel coloring and of course, hail from Bourbon County, Kentucky. The charred barrels give it that distinctive spicy-oak firmness unique to American whiskies.
Eagle Rare Bourbon has a surging oak taste on delivery. Then a backing off to allow a more measured, mildly molassed sweetness to interlink with some orangey citrus. The finish has a slow spied arrival, a brushing of hickory and some developing rye fruitiness. The overall balance and complexity is beautiful bourbon from the school of complex shades and inferences.
Jim Murray's Whisky Bible in 2010 rates Eagle Rare Bourbon at 93 points.
